These players are constantly trying to improve their skills to garner the attention of professional baseball scouts. There are a few amateur players who have succeeded in gaining the scout’s attention over the past few years. Many of these professional scouts attend the summer baseball games. The amateur players must get used to batting with wooden bats. The debate between using wooden versus metal bats is an ongoing one. Batting with wooden bats will help them perfect their baseball skills while improving their batting scores.

Improving these batting skills will help them get much-needed attention from professional baseball scouts. These scouts attend many summer baseball games looking for promising players. Amateur players must learn how to work with their team members. Team-building skills are practiced on the playing field. Amateur players must learn the power of team-building to improve their skills. Baseball coaches work the players on hitting, running and throwing the ball. It is important for amateur players to learn the power of self-discipline. Baseball coaches put their players through a rigorous training routine to build strength, endurance and teamwork. Professional baseball scouts are also watching these practice sessions.

I thought I knew everything there was to know about baseball. Thanks to my upbringing and about half a dozen generations of avid baseball fans, it was practically the air I breathed.

And, you can bet that I made sure that, when I was old enough, I had all the access to baseball I could handle. I settled up with Directv and had a Direct tv channel guide packed full of all the baseball I could handle. That’s where I first found out about the Valley Baseball League and the Lumberjacks.

Why am I only now mentioning this?

Well, because after a few posts about my favorite underdog team, the Lumberjacks, I felt like reminiscing.

For those of you just joining the party, allow me to explain.

The Valley Baseball League is a summer college baseball league located in the Shenandoah Valley region of Virginia. Often times referred to as the “Gateway to the majors,” 12 teams make up this league and while the Harrisonburg Turks might be the current champs, that hasn’t stopped people like me from loving and following the Covington Lumberjacks.

They may not have the numbers or the stats to stack up in the books with some of the others, but their play is all heart.

The Valley Baseball League’s Covington Lumberjacks are typical of all teams in the summer league: young amateurs who love the game, looking for another chance to be noticed by major league organizations. Many who have played in the league in past years have gotten that chance. It is a sure bet that among the average crowd of between 250-300 spectators, there is certain to be the occasional MLB scout.

This year’s Lumberjack team, though not burning up the league, shows some promise. As the young players get used to playing with wooden bats. Ryan Sullivan, the outfielder from Seton Hall, currently leads the league with a .457 average. This could be the cornerstone of a formidable offensive attack. After Sullivan, the lineup is somewhat anemic. The next highest average belongs to Nicholas Hladek at .239.

James Lively is the top performing pitcher. He has appeared in five games and has a won-loss record of 1-1 and an ERA of 2.03. After Lively, the staff is inconsistant.

In order for the defending Valley League champions to repeat, they will have to turn the current season around. The pitching needs more consistency and they need some hitting to bolster Sullivan’s bat in the lineup.

Jason Kipnis is a professional baseball player for the Cleveland Indians. He plays professional ball very well, but he wasn’t always the famous player with the great hits and steals. In the past Jason played for the Valley Baseball league. This is where he improved his skills.

Fans see it all the time when they watch minor league baseball players. When baseball players enter into these small leagues they have a much better chance of being successful in the majors.Additional information can be found at http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2012/06/17/ should-the-cleveland-indians-sign-manny-ramirez/. Kipnis has become one of the first players for the Cleveland Indians to have four consecutive home runs in a game. All of this comes from his time with the Valley baseball league. He really improved his skills and this helped him catch the eyes of professional team owners.

Leagues like Valley help players become better. Some players leave college but they may not be ready for the major leagues. Sometimes it takes a league in between the majors and the college teams to help player become better.

Some baseball players frown upon the thought of going to a baseball team that is not part of the major leagues, but they should embrace this. This is what makes them better.

Through all levels of baseball, metal bats are dominant. They offer a smaller weight to length ratio, and so seem a natural choice for those starting out and those who want the most bang for their swing. But, throughout professional baseball, from the minors to majors, players must use wooden bats. So, how do they transition from metal to wood?

Players do not simply choose a bat that best approximates their old metal bat. While metal bats carry their weight in the handle, wooden bats carry it in the barrel. So, it’s a process of trial and error. Players not only need to choose length and weight, but also material. Ash wood has been dominant, but recently many players have turned to maple.

Through batting practice with both machines and live pitching, players learn how to adapt their swing to the different weight distribution of wooden bats. Because of the weight being near the end of the bat, players must even alter their style of swing, and perhaps even their pre-pitch ritual. Through many hours of batting practice they come to learn how to use their new bats. But, this may mean that a power hitter must become a contact hitter, or a pull hitter must become a spray hitter.

When it comes to any sporting event there is one thing that needs to remain constant and that is teamwork. If you have a bunch of players that are going at each other throughout the day, it will only lead to chaos and confusion. Players need to understand what it takes to work together and not just let those things go. It is going to take a lot of patience and understanding to reach a point where you can finally move forward and onto better things. The main thing you have to remember is never to give up. Ignoring the problem with personality mismatch is not going to make the problem go away.

You have to confront the issue head-on and tackle it with grace and understanding. Players need time to get used to how their teammates are working together and without that there is no way to move onto other things that have been bogging you down. Sporting events are wonderful ways to build lasting bonds and friendships, but in order to make that happen everyone is going to have to work together. Moving forward with a team requires dedication and work, so don’t just assume everything is going to fall into place perfectly.

When you are looking to improve your baseball skills and play with some of the best in the area, you need to consider joining up with the Valley Baseball League’s Rising Stars team. This team allows you to learn from the very best in the area, all while improving your overall production and technique, which goes a long way in creating a superior baseball player. So whether you are a pitcher wanting to improve on current pitches (and learn a few new ones), or a fielder wanting to improve on fielding techniques and batting performance, there are many different perks of joining up with the Valley Baseball league’s Rising Stars.Didn’t catch that? This explains it.

As is the case with any other sports team or talent, it is important for you to continually play it and practice it ti ensure the best overall production and skill improvement. Without every playing baseball against other individuals you may never actually master the sport and take it on to the next level. Because of this, you need to keep with the sports team and continually partake in all the practices and games, to maximize your overall potential in the sport and push you to the very next level.
